The portrayal of the characters are real characters whom lived in ancient periods. Author’s depiction in Udayar will not be concerning on one main character likely Rajaraja cholan but he describes each and every character of that period by giving equal importance to all. Balakumaran gives equal importance to all his characters and brings truth. Thus, his writing skills received positive response among readers. The story is written in six volumes depicting Rajaraja Chola’s rule and the construction of the big temple at Tanjore 1000 A.D.
Idea behind the novel is the thinking of how RajaRaja Chola would have dreamed about constructing this temple and with this construction he will be able to reduce problems and move the country to a higher level. This novel depicts the rise of coin economy in small trades, divison of works among civils and improvement in arts, culture which is good for the chola dynasty and it’s rise.
